Buchanan Galleries Shopping Mall

Buchanan Galleries can be found at the top of Buchanan Street in Glasgow. Buchanan Galleries is a shopping centre with parking spaces for around 2000 car spaces. The car park itself is opened from 0800 until 2330 except on a Sunday where the opening time is 0900.The prices for the car park start at just over 1.10 GBP for one hour. Discount prices for parking after 1800.

The shopping centre is opened from 0900 to 1800 most days except on a Thursday where there is late night opening until 2000.Sunday  restrictions apply for shopping in the city with the shopping centre opening at 1000.

There are over 90 shops located inside the centre including all the top named brands.

You can purchase all your accessories from Accessorize. Buy a birthday card in Clinton’s. Pick out a new outfit in Gap or baby Gap.

If you wish to purchase some gifts for your loved ones to take back home while you are on holiday you could perhaps try and visit the whiskey shop Buchanan Galleries which is located on the ground floor within the centre. A shopping mall like no other in Glasgow is the classy and sophisticated Princes Square Glasgow City centre. There are a number of stores in Princes Square Glasgow Shops . There are a number of designer shops inside the square which can be found in the Princes Square Map guide.

The Princes Street Mall is opened until Midnight most nights as the shopping centre has her own night club and bars, with just under 50 designer stores which are located over five floors.

You can dine in Darcy’s restaurant and order some pasta or coffee.

Tourists can try the Ming Restaurant which serves the most wonderful flavours from the far east.

Loch Lomond Scotland

Loch Lomond Scotland 

The loch is a fresh water loch and is the biggest loch or lake in Britain.

Loch Lomond is surrounded by lots of little islands. Loch Lomond is a popular tourist attraction from all over the world and has a song written after her. 

You can reach Loch Lomond by car is you travel along the A82 from Glasgow. In the height of the summer the road can become very busy with locals and tourists a like. During the past 20 years the local government have improved the road but beyond Tarbet, Loch Lomond has not been improved. 

Around 15 miles from Glasgow , the loch is now integrated with the Trossachs National Park. Tourists and visitors are attracted to the Scottish Munros which are set around Loch Lomond with Ben Lomond being the well known of the Munros.

Inchmurrin is the most popular and well known of the Islands.

A colony of Wallabies reside on the island of Inchconnachan. 

The loch was the setting for a Television soap opera named Take the High Road which was set around the village of Luss, Loch Lomond. 

Ardlui, Loch Lomond , has a railway station which runs from Queen Street train station and ends in either Oban or Fort William. Ardlui is a little hamlet.

Balmaha , Loch Lomond is a tiny little hamlet popular with Glaswegians on day trips on a glorious sunny day bringing with them their picnics. Balmaha is also a well known part of the West Highland Way which is popular with walkers. Visitors can take trips on boats which leave the shores of Balmaha set for the island of Inchcailloch. 

Weary travellers who are walking the West Highland Way can stop over in Inverbeg or if they wish to cross Loch Lomond by tiny ferry which only holds a few passengers they can rest in a hostel or camp site in Rowardennan.

Pollok House, Glasgow

Pollok House, Glasgow

Pollok House is a separate building on the same estate which was gifted to Glasgow by Mrs Annie Maxwell, MacDonald back in 1966. Mrs MacDonald’s family had owned the land for over 600 years. The well known National Trust now run the estate for Glasgow.

Within the house are wonderful art works to bestow the public eye. There are paintings on display by Francisco Goya, El Greco and Esteban Murillo all Spanish painters.Also gifted to Pollok House are silverware, glassware, antique furniture.In the main part of the house where the servants used to live downstairs is now a tea room and shops. The tea room sells the most delicious scones you have eaten. 

Outside there are hugh gardens accessible to the public . The land includes the exclusive golf course named Pollok Hose Golf Club. Cattle still graze on the enormous grounds and Strathclyde Police also train their police dogs within the grounds.

Saint Kentigern or Saint Mungo Patron Saint of Glasgow in Scotland

Saint Kentigern of Glasgow is also known as Saint Mungo Patron Saint of Glasgow in Scotland.

Saint Mungo was born in Fife town of Culross after his mother was forced to leave her home due to a disagreement with her father over a misunderstanding. 

Another saint by the name of Saint Serf raised Saint Mungo and when he turned 25 , he decided to start his missionery life here in Glasgow. 

When King Morken came into power , Saint Mungo was forced to leave Glasgow and eventually settled in Rome. 

A new King named King Hael asked St Mungo to return to Glasgow, which he did and carried on his teachings and missionery work until his death in 614 on January 13th. 

Glasgow coat of arms is said to be a tribute of four miracles performed by St Mungo.

St Mungo brought back to life , Saint Serf’s pet bird which had been killed by St Mungo’s school friends hoping to pass the blame to St Mungo himself.

St Mungo relit St Serf’s fire which had been extinguished while he fell asleep.

A bell brought back from St Mungo’s trip to Rome was said to be used to mourn the dead and in church services.

Queen Languoreth was accused by her husband of infidelity. King Riderch asked to see a ring owned by the Queen which the King had said to be given to her accused as a gift. Saint Mungo ordered one of the King’s men to catch a fish in the River Clyde.
Once the fish was caught and gutted the Queen’s ring was said to have been inside the fish.

At the top of High Street just before you reach the Glasgow Royal Infirmary ,St Mungo Museum Glasgow can be found. This museum holds numerous religious art works and often host events days.

St Mungo’s Church , Glasgow is a short walk away from the Museum opposite the Royal Infirmary and is situated in Parsons Street, Glasgow.

Saint Mungo’s book shop is also located in Parsons Street and is opened Wednesday to Sunday each week. The book shop is closed on Monday and Tuesdays.

Glasgow Queen Street Train Station

Glasgow Queen Street Train Station is located across from George Square.

There are also access to Queen Street and North Hanover Street in Glasgow. 

Queen Street is slightly smaller than Glasgow Central Station. 

Travellers can catch a train to Stirling, Falkirk, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dundee and Aberdeen. 

Within walking distance of Queen Street Train Station you can visit George Square and the Glasgow Tourist Information centre which is located at the opposite corner of George Square. 

Buchanan Street bus Station is within a few minutes walking distance from Queen Street. 

The shopping centre Buchanan Galleries is right next to Queen Street station. 

The Royal Concert hall and multi screen cinema complex is again a few minutes away.

Glasgow Central Station

Glasgow is thriving, diverse city with lots of Glasgow tourist attractions to keep everyone occupied for their trip to Scotland.

Glasgow has two main train stations within the city centre.

The first is Glasgow Central Station. The main entrance to the station is on Gordon Street. There are a number of taxis available outside the Station 24 hours, 7 days a week.

The Glasgow International Airport bus stops outside Central Station. 

Glasgow Central Station has around 14 platforms on street level of the station. You can catch a train to the Local Glasgow Suburbs and central Scotland.

Passengers can also board trains to London, Manchester, Poole, Bournemouth, Birmingham, and Preston.

If you are arriving by plane into Glasgow Prestwick Airport you are able to walk over the covered walk way from Prestwick airport to Prestwick Airport train station and from then catch a train into Glasgow Central Station. The journey time is around 45 minutes and trains are every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on a Sunday. 

Glasgow Central Station also has a low level service which caters for trains heading to the west of Glasgow and trains into Helensburgh. 

Inside the Station there are several coffee shops, 3 bars, Burger King, Millie’s cookies,  Boots the Chemist, Thornton’s, Accessorise  , Marks and Spencer food court,  Tie Rack, Hair dressers, odd bins and lots more.

 The station is easily accessible for the city centre. You can take a small escalator down to street level into Argyle Street. You can take a few steps down to Union Street where buses can take you over the River Clyde to the South of the City. Or you can walk straight out into Hope Street and take a bus to the North of the City. 

Within a few minutes of arriving at the station you are right in the heart of the city with access to all the latest shops, bars and restaurants and Glasgow Scotland Tourist Attractions.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Glasgow born architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, is celebrated around the world as one of the most creative designers and architects of the 20th century.

His contribution to design and  modern architecture is unquestioned. McIntosh is one of the principal exponents of the “Glasgow style” movement and had  a key role in shaping European Art Nouveau.

McIntosh’s home city, Glasgow, houses a pre-eminent collection of his buildings, drawings and designs.

McIntosh was famous for three types of architecture – private houses, public buildings, and tea-rooms. The city of Glasgow holds the majority of these buildings.

He was responsible for laying the foundations of the “Glasgow style”, along with his wife Margaret MacDonald, her sister Frances and Herbert McNair.

His buildings are famous for the clarity of their spatial concepts, and their elegance.
